Kafr El Sheikh Governorate
 The Governorate's national day : 4th November commemorating the
Burullus battlefield that took place in 1956. Emblem: It shows a
pharaonic canoe having two spikes of rice grain, which the governorate is famous
for. The three chained rings signify the agricultural cooperative system.
Kafr El Sheikh lies in the far North of the Republic. It is bordered in the
North by the Mediterranean Sea, in the West by Rosetta branch that stretch by 85
km Till its mouth in the Mediterranean Sea, in the East, by Dakahleyia, and in
the south by Gharbeyia. Kafr El Sheikh City is the Governorate's capitel. Kafr El Sheikh is located in the delta region that encompasses Gharbia,
Menofya, Dakahleyia, Kafr El sheikh, and Damietta governorates. The name is
attributed to the Sufi Sheikh Talha Abi Saied El Telmesany dwscending from
Moroccan origin, who settled in the governorate in year 600 Hijri. The
governorate covers an area of 3466.7 km2 representing 0.34% of the Republic's
total area. It includes 10 Marakz, 11 cities, 49 rural local units annexed by
206 villages,and 1559 Hamlets. According to the preliminary results of the 2006
census, the total population is 2.6 million people of whom 23% live in urban
areas, and 77% in rural areas. The population growth rate has reached 19.3 per
thousand. Kafr El Sheikh is an agricultural governorate, with total
cultivated lands of 602.1 thousand feddans. It is famous for the production of
rice , beets, wheat, and cotton. The governorate contributes to the
industrial activities by many major industries: dairy products, oil and soap,
fodders, milling rice, cotton ginning and spinning, and beets sugar. There are
several fish farms in the governorate as well. In an effort to enhance
investment, the Prime Minister issued a decree that provides for the
establishment of the first industrial zone in Balteem, covering 114 feddans, and
a second industrial zone along the international coastal road in Metobbas over
1160 feddans. The governorate is endowed with diversified highlights
including entertainment tourism in Balteem summer resort, El Burullus lake, and
Desook Park in addition to religious highlights including Mosques of Seedy Talha
Abi Saied El Telmesany, Seedy Ibrahim El Desooky, as well as the Virgin Mary
Church. Moreover, it includes historical places and monuments in Tal Sakha, Tal
El Fraeen, Koom El Ouman, Koom El Heira, in addition to the leader Saad Zaghloul
House. The governorate hosts natural protectorates pursuant to the Prime
Minister's decree No.1444/1998 stipulating that el Burullus Lake is a natural
protectorate which is located on th north east of Rosetta Branch and is bordered
in the north by the international coastal road extending from Rafah till Saloum. Aiming at building a basic IT infrastructure and in cooperation with the
Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), 76 information centers
were established to support decision making process on all managerial levels in
the governorate. The highest caliber of local administration staff are working
there. In addition, two IT training centers in the governorate Main Department
"Diwan Aam" and Hamool city were established and trained 34145 students and
fresh graduates as well as working staff of the governorate's administrative
body .
